Your Website Looks Like It Was Built in 2008 (And Not in a Cool, Retro Way)
Your website needs a redesign if it's slow, hard to use on a phone, cluttered with sliders and stock photos, or unclear about the next step. A modern site loads fast, has a simple structure, gives every page one job, and makes booking, buying or contacting you effortless.

If your homepage still has a rotating image slider, it's time for an intervention. Your website is your brand's digital first impression, and right now it's giving major "grandpa trying to FaceTime" energy. People don't have patience for clunky navigation, slow load times, or stock photos of people shaking hands. They want clarity. They want speed. They want something that feels modern and easy to use.
Why an outdated website costs you customers
The problem isn't just aesthetic. It's strategic. An outdated site doesn't convert. It confuses. It frustrates. It sends your potential customers straight to a competitor who actually invested in user experience. Your website should guide users like a well-trained concierge, not trap them in a maze of dropdowns and irrelevant pages. It should work on mobile. It should load fast. And it should make it painfully easy for someone to take the next step.
There's a search cost too. Slow, messy sites get crawled less thoroughly, rank worse, and are less likely to be pulled into AI-generated answers. A dated site quietly undermines your SEO even when the content on it is good.
Signs your website is overdue for a redesign
Run through this list honestly. Three or more and it's time.
- There's a rotating slider on the homepage. Nobody waits for slide three. Pick one message and lead with it.
- It's slow on a phone. If your homepage takes more than a few seconds to become usable on mobile data, people leave before they see anything.
- You can't update it yourself. If changing a phone number requires emailing a developer, the site is already falling behind.
- The navigation has more than seven top-level items. Or dropdowns inside dropdowns.
- It's full of stock photography. Especially the handshake. Always the handshake.
- The next step isn't obvious. A visitor should know within five seconds what you do and what to click.
- It doesn't reflect what you sell today. Old services, old team photos, old pricing pages, old logo.
- It fails basic accessibility checks. Low-contrast text, images without alt text and forms that can't be used with a keyboard shut people out and create legal risk. (More on that in our accessibility compliance work.)
What a modern website actually needs
Modern web design is all about clean structure, fast performance, and intentional UX. A good site is simple, scrollable, and supports your goals, whether that's getting people to schedule a call, buy a product, or learn more. Every page should have a purpose, and every click should feel intuitive.
In practice, that looks like:
- A clear headline above the fold. What you do, who it's for, and why you're different, in one or two lines.
- One primary call to action per page. Book a call, buy now, get a quote. Repeat it, don't compete with it.
- Fast, mobile-first build. Compressed images, minimal scripts, and layouts designed for thumbs first.
- Real proof. Reviews, results, client logos and photos of your actual team and work.
- Pages built around customer questions. Service pages that answer what people search for, structured so search engines and AI tools can understand them.
- An editor your team can use. Platforms like Webflow let your team update content without breaking the design.
Redesign or refresh?
Not every dated site needs to be torn down. If the structure is sound and the platform is solid, a refresh (new design layer, better copy, faster images, cleaner navigation) can get you most of the way. If the platform is the problem, the content is badly organized, or the site can't do what the business now needs, a full website redesign is the better investment. Either way, keep your existing URLs or redirect them properly so you don't lose the search rankings you've already earned.
Make it perform
A web redesign isn't just about making things pretty. It's about making things perform. The right changes can increase conversions, build trust, and release growth that's been stuck behind a clunky interface.
So if your site looks more nostalgic than functional, it might be time for an upgrade. Book a free call and let's build something beautiful (and optimized).
