SEO, AEO & GEO

SEO, AEO and GEO: one discipline, every surface where your customers ask.

Your buyers search Google, read AI Overviews, and ask ChatGPT and Perplexity. We make you the answer in all of them, with the same SEO fundamentals, run as one engagement.

330% organic traffic growth for Syssero. 135K sessions for S Bertram Foods. No paid ads required.

The short version

AEO and GEO are SEO done right. We don't sell them separately.

Is AEO the same as SEO?

Answer

Yes. In May 2026 Google published its first guide to AI search features and said optimizing for generative AI search is still SEO. AI Overviews and AI Mode draw on the same index as classic results. The work that earns rankings (useful content, technical health, trust) is the work that earns citations.

What's actually happening

Search didn't die. It grew more front doors.

If your traffic feels off, you're not imagining it. The questions your customers used to type into a search box now get answered before anyone clicks, and sometimes the answer names a competitor.

  • AI Overviews answer the question above your listing
  • ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend vendors in your category, and you're not one of them
  • Your blog ranks but never gets cited
  • Agencies keep emailing you about a new AEO line item on top of your SEO retainer

No upsells

What you're being sold vs. what actually works

The upsell

A new acronym, a new invoice

  • A separate AEO or GEO retainer on top of SEO
  • An "AI readiness score" that is a standard audit with a new cover
  • llms.txt files and AI-only schema sold as must-haves
  • Content chopped into chunks "for the robots"
The Gadsly way

One engagement, measured everywhere

  • SEO, AEO and GEO run as one scope with one report
  • Content built so the H2 is the question and the next line is the answer
  • Technical health and structured data that help every engine read your site
  • Visibility tracked in Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity

The work

What moves AI search visibility, in order of impact

If an agency can't map its monthly tasks to this list, ask what you're paying for.

  • Direct-answer content

Question-shaped headings with a two to four sentence answer underneath. Easy for Google to snippet and for an AI to quote.

  • Non-commodity content

Original insight, real examples and named methods. Content that repeats what everyone else says gives an AI no reason to cite you.

  • Topical depth

Three to five topics you intend to own, covered deeply and linked tightly, instead of sixty thin posts about everything.

  • Author and brand signals

Real bylines, real credentials, consistent business details, and mentions across the open web that make your brand a known entity.

  • Structured data that earns its keep

Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, Article and Breadcrumb markup that clarifies who you are. No mythical "AI schema".

  • Technical basics

Crawlable, indexable, fast, mobile-friendly pages with clean internal links. AI features can't cite pages crawlers never reached.

How it works

How we run SEO, AEO and GEO

One process. Technical fixes ship first because everything else depends on them.

  1. Audit

We test where you show up today across Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and find the technical issues holding you back.

  2. Strategy

We map the queries your buyers actually run, the three to five competitors you actually face, and the topics you can own.

  3. Fix and build

Technical fixes first, then content restructuring and new pages in direct-answer format, written in your voice.

  4. Amplify

Reviews, profiles, citations and earned mentions that make your brand a source engines trust.

  5. Report and iterate

Plain-English reporting on rankings, AI citations, leads and revenue. Then we adjust.

SEO, AEO and GEO questions

What's the difference between SEO, AEO and GEO?

Answer

They are names for where the answer shows up, not separate disciplines. SEO covers classic rankings, AEO covers Google's answer surfaces like AI Overviews and snippets, and GEO covers generative tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. The same fundamentals drive all three.

Do you charge extra for AEO or GEO?

Answer

No. It is part of the SEO engagement. If an agency can't list what it does for AEO that it doesn't already do for SEO, you're paying twice for the same work.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

Answer

Not for Google. Google's AI search guide says you don't need special AI text files or markup. llms.txt may help some AI agents navigate a site, but no major AI search product has said it uses it for rankings or citations. It's a nice-to-have, not a strategy.

Can you measure visibility inside ChatGPT or Perplexity?

Answer

Yes, with care. We run a fixed set of real customer questions across platforms on a schedule, log who gets named and cited, and pair that with Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools AI reports. It's a trend line, not a ranking.

How long does SEO take to work?

Answer

Technical fixes and content restructuring can show movement fairly quickly. Authority and brand mentions compound over several months. Anyone promising guaranteed AI citations by a date is guessing.

How much does SEO cost?

Answer

It depends on how many pages need work, how competitive your category is, and whether you want content produced for you. We'll scope it on a free call. For how agency pricing works in general, read our honest breakdown at /insights/how-much-does-marketing-agency-cost-small-business.

Next step

When someone asks AI about your category, will it name you?

We'll check where you show up today across Google, AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and tell you plainly what would change that.
